E3R sponsored Hurricane Team finish in top ten at the national finals of Land Rover challenge
A team of talented young design engineers from Huddersfield finished in the top ten, out of 21 teams, at the Land Rover 4×4 in Schools Challenge national finals last week, with a miniature radio-controlled vehicle they designed and built.
The Hurricane Team from Almondbury Community School attended the final at the National Motoring Museum last week (6th & 7th March) following success at the North East regional final of the education challenge held at UTC South Durham by finishing second.
E3 Recruitment, along with Vision for Education and Reliance Precision sponsored the Hurricane Team to attend the final, which is made up of Olivia Wortley, Robyn Tufnell, Jetsada Samoron-Stott and Megan Backhouse. Over several months the team has used software coding to design and build a remote-controlled scale model four-wheel-drive all-terrain vehicle capable of negotiating obstacles and road surfaces.
Team Manager Olivia Wortley, 14, said: “The whole experience of participating in the challenge, attending the regional final and the final has been an experience we will never forget.”
Design and Technology Teacher Chris Haywood added: “The team had a fantastic experience competing against some of the top schools in Britain, getting excellent feedback from all the judges, specifically commenting on how well their presentations and marketing were and the obvious pride in having their sponsors on board. The team were a credit to the school, their parents and to E3 Recruitment. We can’t thank the sponsors enough for the help and support they have given the team in order to achieve the results they have.”
E3 Recruitment Director Andrew Joseph commented: “As an engineering recruitment specialist, we know the importance of getting young people engaged with projects which will excite them about a career in engineering from an early age. This is why we jumped at the chance of supporting the Hurricane Team with the Land Rover 4 x4 in School Challenge, as they gain more of an understanding of the exciting career opportunities available to them. We’d also like to thank our sponsorship partners Vision for Education and Reliance Precision, as together we support education and engineering for the next generation.”
