Contract – Outside IR35, £40-£50 p/h, 6-Month initial contract

With a workforce of over 500 employees across four state-of-the-art facilities in Europe and North America, this dynamic engineering group delivers comprehensive, end-to-end solutions-from concept design and manufacturing to installation, commissioning, and aftercare.

Serving a diverse client base across sectors such as Online Retail & Distribution, FMCG, Life Sciences, and Automotive, this company is renowned for its technical expertise and customer-centric approach. Following a series of strategic developments, the organisation is now entering a significant phase of accelerated growth and seeking an experience Controls Engineer to bolster the growth.

This employer is based in WAKEFIELD, under 10 minutes from the M1 motorway, meaning the successful Controls Engineer will easily be able to commute from surrounding towns & cities including Leeds, Dewsbury, Pontefract, Castleford, Huddersfield, Barnsley, Sheffield and Halifax.

Key responsibilities of the Controls Engineer will include:

  • Design, develop, and deliver PLC, HMI, and SCADA control system solutions aligned to defined project outcomes
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation including functional design specifications, system architectures, and wiring diagrams
  • Take ownership of end-to-end project deliverables, from development through to testing, commissioning, and handover
  • Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of agreed milestones
  • Conduct system testing, including FAT and SAT, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety requirements
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues across control systems, software, and communications during delivery phases
  • Provide structured training and documentation to support system handover, with support services defined separately from core delivery

Benefits:

  • Between £40 to £50 per hour
  • Outside IR35
  • 6-Month initial contract (potential for extension)

For the Controls Engineer opportunity, we are keen to receive CV’s from candidates who possess:

  • Proven experience in PLC programming across platforms such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, and Schneider, including advanced motion control applications
  • Strong background in HMI and SCADA development using tools such as FactoryTalk Optix and Siemens HMI Unified
  • Practical experience integrating and supporting industrial robotic systems (e.g. ABB, Fanuc, Staubli) within automated environments
  • Hands-on knowledge of machine vision systems, including implementation and troubleshooting using Cognex and Keyence technologies
  • Solid understanding of industrial communication networks and machinery safety systems, including risk assessment, design, and compliance with relevant standards
