Sophie Ranson - Recruitment Consultant sector icon

Sophie Ranson

I work as a Recruitment Consultant in the Automotive and Fleet team, recruiting within vehicle conversions, emergency vehicles, and the coachbuilding of motorhomes. The roles I focus on most include Coachbuilders, Auto Electricians, Vehicle Bodybuilders, HGV Technicians, Paint Sprayers, Vehicle Wrappers, and Panel Builders. I love the variety – every role is different and has its own challenges, being part of that process is always rewarding.

What do you enjoy most about working in recruitment?

No day is ever the same. There are always different projects on the go, and seeing them through from beginning to end is such a rewarding part of the job. Knowing I’ve played a part in helping both the client and the candidate achieve what they need is a great feeling.

What sets you apart about how you work with clients and candidates?

I’m naturally very chatty and personable, so building strong relationships comes naturally. I like to really get to know the people I work with – not just their work life but what they’re up to at the weekend, too. It helps build trust and rapport, and it makes the process feel more human.

What has been a standout moment or placement in your career?

It has to be my first ever placement. In my second week, I helped secure a role for someone who had been out of work and supporting a family. That moment really stuck with me – being able to make such a positive impact so early on was a standout highlight.

How does your background help you in recruitment?

My background of doing some internal recruitment means I really understand the challenges clients face and the pressures they’re under. I’ve also managed teams of different people, which has given me the ability to adapt to all kinds of personalities.

What can clients expect when working with you?

Commitment, regular contact, and someone who genuinely goes above and beyond. If that means taking a call out of hours, then that’s what I’ll do. I believe in being reliable and always available when needed.

What advice would you give to someone looking for their next role in your sector?

Know your audience and do your research. Every company is different, and understanding their world will give you a real advantage. Get out to site visits whenever you can – seeing how a business operates day-to-day gives you so much more insight than you’ll ever get from a job description.

What do you enjoy most about being part of E3R?

The people. Everyone is so friendly, supportive, and genuinely wants each other to succeed. It’s a really welcoming environment, and that makes a huge difference day to day.

How would your colleagues describe you in three words?

Confident, warm, and energetic.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I volunteer with cheerleading, supporting my children’s team. It’s a big part of our lives and something I really enjoy being involved in.

Is there a motto you try to bring into your work?

“You get out what you put in.” I believe effort and consistency always pay off in the long run.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?

That everything happens for a reason. Don’t dwell too much on setbacks.
