Toni - Marie Whiteley - Recruitment Consultant sector icon

Toni-Marie Monks

I recruit within process manufacturing, covering the chemical and pharmaceutical, and high-hazard sectors. The roles I focus on most include Maintenance Engineers, EC&I Technicians, and Chemical Process Operators. It’s a technical and fast-paced industry that always keeps me on my toes.

What do you enjoy most about recruitment?

No two days are ever the same. From candidate management to business development, there’s always something to keep me busy. I get to speak to people from all over, learn about their backgrounds, and help them take their next step.

What sets you apart from others and how does your background help?

Strong communication and transparency are at the core of how I work. I keep clients and candidates informed as soon as I know something—no delays, no beating around the bush, just honesty. I go the extra mile to understand my clients’ needs and I genuinely care to get it right. When you work with me, expect a friendly face, open communication, and honesty from start to finish. I’m always contactable, I don’t overcomplicate things, and I give an honest viewpoint that clients can trust.

My background taught me how to think on my feet, deal with situations in the moment, and adapt quickly—skills that are invaluable in recruitment. You’ve got to stay sharp and be flexible.

What advice would you give to someone looking for a new role?

It’s okay not to know everything. This is a sector with a steep learning curve, but you’ll pick things up as you go. Be patient with yourself, it’s all part of the journey.

What challenges are you noticing in the market right now?

There’s a huge skills gap right now, particularly in controls and instrumentation. More companies within chemical and pharmaceutical are turning to apprenticeship schemes to build up talent from the ground up, but it’s still a long-term challenge for the sector.

What do you like about E3R?

The people make it. We’ve got a brilliant company culture and a genuine sense of community. I love the social events, the way different divisions support one another, and how hard work is always recognised and celebrated.

What do you like to do out of the office?

Outside of the office, you’ll usually find me on holiday, outdoors, or socialising with friends. I like to stay active and make the most of my downtime.

If my colleagues had to describe me in three words, I think they’d say ambitious, motivated, and friendly.

How has your career evolved since you started in recruitment?

I’ve taken on more responsibility over time, managing my own clients and accounts and growing in confidence with every step. I understand my market better, and I know exactly what my clients want and how to deliver it.

What is the biggest lesson you have learned in your role and what motto do you go by?

Celebrate the little wins, don’t let setbacks throw you off and consistency really is everything.

And my work motto – Every day is a new day.
