Job Title: – Laboratory Shift Chemist

Standard Hours of Work -Average 42 hours per week , 12 hours Days/Nights

Salary/Rate – £13 – £17 per Hour ( PAYE/LTD )

Location – Glossop

Working for our International engineering client in their Laboratory team , where they do inorganic analysis on a variety of metallurgical products bound for Industries such as Aerospace, Medical and Automotive Industries.


The following is meant to describe the main tasks and is not necessarily an exhaustive list of duties. It does not preclude the need to carry out other specific tasks from time to time as required.

Flexibility to work shifts to ensure 24/7 cover is provided by the Chemist team.

Follow instructions to prepare and analyze samples to agreed timescales and to evaluate the chemical acceptability of product to internal and external standards reporting the results obtained.

Plan workload and analysis schedules in conjunction with the production departments so that agreed volumes and time targets are met.

Calibrate and maintain instrumentation in laboratory to ensure minimum downtime.

Liaise and communicate effectively with other departments as required.

Work to required standards and assist in maintaining quality systems/standards.

Suggest and prepare amendments to internal instructions/methods as required, as well as those resulting from development and validation of new methods.

Raise internal non-conformances as required.

Comply with company working and safety practices and policies.


 A minimum of A level chemistry and relevant experience/expertise of working in a UKAS approved laboratory environment.

 Good PC skills and experience of Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.

 Experience of using computer systems Tropos, Qpulse or Optimat desirable but not essential.


 Ability to work to tight deadlines.

 Ability to prioritize workload as appropriate.

 Good communication skills.

 Good analytical and numeracy skills.

 Team player with a hands on approach and the ability to self-manage

 Determined, quality orientated, organized and disciplined.
