We’re recruiting for a Key Account Manager for a large engineering business who design and manufacture a very specialist product. The role of Key Account Manager is a strategic role with the aim to secure sustainable business and growth from a defined portfolio of customers and to develop each customer account in accordance with the strategy and KPIs set out in the company’s business plan. As the Key Account Manager, you will provide leadership for all aspects of the customer’s business in order to secure and maintain a successful, enduring, long-term relationship.

Must Have: civil aerospace or defence key account management / sales experience
Nice to have: Project management experience across an Engineering Manufacturing function.
Nice to have: Commercial / contracts experience
Nice to have: Experience of working with / for any of the following companies: BAE, Cobham, Collins, Diehl Defence, GE, Kongsberg Defence, Leonardo, MBDA, Raytheon, Saab, Safran, Thales
Nice to have: Estimating experience
Nice to have: Bid work / proposal writing experience


  • Act as the central point of reference for all aspects of the customer’s business, developing an effective, integrated account team across all functions, and having an overall appreciation of all activities related to the account.
  • Develop a strategic account plan for each customer, based on a thorough understanding of the customer’s business in the short, medium and long term, their needs and the related opportunities and threats. Communicate an action plan on a regular basis to the wider Account team and Senior Management team in the context of existing and new business.
  • Work closely with the Operational Account Manager to maintain a strong day-to-day working relationship.
  • Interpreting and acting upon customer feedback relating to the products and services. This includes understanding changes to contract, specification, delivery, quantities, payment terms etc and assessing the business impact e.g. revenue timing and profitability.
  • Hand-over responsibility to the Operational Account Manager for new opportunities as they transition from enquiries to orders.
