We are recruiting an experienced Head of Projects for a leading Global automation business with a state-of-the-art design and manufacturing facility in the in the West Yorkshire area. With a vast amount of experience working across various sectors including but not limited to pharmaceuticals, FMCG and medical devices.

This role is ideally suited to someone with experience of managing Project Managers within an engneering/manufacturing environment looking to progress their career in a thriving forward thinking business.

Purpose of the Head of Projects Role
The successful Head of Projects will be responsible for developing and leading the project team ensuring the successful execution of assigned projects, liaising with customers, capturing customer requirements, supporting the project team and working in partnership with colleagues to deliver on commitments.

This Head of Projects role is a hands on position so in addition to managing other project managers the successful applicant will be hands on managing projects themselves.

Key Responsibilities for the Head of Projects
  • Accountable to the Managing Director and taking responsibility for managing and leading the company project management capability.
  • Line manage and develop a team of project managers to support organic and strategic business growth.
  • Lead, motivate and co-ordinate multidiscipline project teams within a complex engineering environment; ensuring that appropriate skills and experience are utilised to deliver projects in line with the business case.
  • Ensure that all project requirements, work packages and tasks are correctly interpreted, planned, resourced and delivered on time and to budget.
  • Take responsibility for ensure effective preparation and presentation of project financial data including accurate budgeting, forecast updates, cost to complete (CTC) and Final Cost at Completion (FCAC), invoicing profile.
  • Build, maintain and exploit strong relationships with customers, suppliers, internal departments, senior management and other project stakeholders managing expectations.
  • Provide support to Sales team as required with business development activities that align with the Company’s strategic growth objectives.
Key Skills for the Head of Projects
Essential

  • Senior Project Management or Head of experience in a similar organisation
  • Strong understanding of Project Management Methodologies and ability to coach others
  • Engineering background either time served or formal qualifications with experience
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with project stakeholders
  • Experienced with the delivery of multiple concurrent projects and customers through effective delegation and own activities
  • Experience of managing multi-disciplined teams working within a complex engineering environment
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines whilst ensuring the project team meet customer expectations
  • Impeccable attention to detail

Desirable

  • Knowledge of international import / export regulations
Qualifications
  • Minimum HNC qualified in relevant electrical/mechanical engineering discipline

(Desirable)

  • Project Management qualification
  • Leadership experience
